SpeedCurve RUM: Measurement Setup

SpeedCurve RUM is an advanced way to measure website speed.

We recommend measuring speed with real users to all our larger clients.

Currently, we are assisting these companies with SpeedCurve RUM:

Sazka
Dr. Max
Livesport

Measuring real users addresses the shortcomings of other solutions

  • Synthetic speed measurements (e.g., Lighthouse, SpeedCurve synthetic) provide data for only a few device types, leading to a skewed perspective.
  • User measurements from the Chrome UX Report only cover Chrome users, the statistics are limited to a small subset of metrics, and are not available in real-time.

The abbreviation RUM stands for “Real User Monitoring,” tracking speed for real users.

What do you gain from RUM measurement?

Monitoring speed with your users provides data that can't be obtained elsewhere. Here are two examples:

Live dashboard for speed metrics on one of our clients' websites.

One output of SpeedCurve RUM is measuring key metrics for users over time, specific to certain page types.

What do you need to do?

  • Insert a JavaScript snippet on every page of the site.
  • Collaboration with your developers and analysts during the initial implementation (a few hours).

SpeedCurve is the only speed analytics solution that allows sampling, so you don't have to pay for all pageviews. Even our largest clients typically pay $1,000 - $3,000 annually for this solution.
